My child played around inside a playpen, while I sat for 12 hours in sanding floors and removing wallpaper. Ha! We were getting close to completing, however the project was still a distance to go. It would take lots of time and a love to shop. To keep within my budget, I took my boys along to search for gems hidden in estate sales. Our routine for the week consisted of walking from Thursday to Saturday through estate sales and garage sales to purchase a mix of old and new pieces and then I would spend weekends painting and sanding the driveway. My first impression was like... this is when my passion to restore furniture was born. Although our house was furnished, I could not put down. At the local market I set up a little area and then sold a few items. I could outgrow the area because I had numerous pieces I could use. My home became a place where I would host open houses, where up 1000 people would be able to view the things on my first floor before purchasing the items. Growing Days was founded in my own home. My business was booming, but my family was also expanding. As a mom of a child I was able to strike the right balance to both start my own business as well as become a great mother. Growing Days seemed like the best fit. In 2013, my daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. This was a fantastic direction for my business, but I also needed some time off. I opted to take a little time off from my vintage furniture and slow down to be at home with my kids. It was time. The phone rang again after a while. I was getting messages from individuals asking to help with their home improvement and interior design. Many of the people calling me came from people who visited my home at one of my furniture open house events. In the following time I started taking on clients according to my schedule. In no time, I was managing several accounts and a home renovations company. If you'd told me that my business would be the basis for a DIY Network show, I might have thought you were crazy. It's fun to reflect on the idea.
